Our Story
Hi, I’m Caitlyn — geologist, gem fossicker, and founder of Little Blue Weld. My love of rocks started when I was four, filling my pockets with “treasures” while out collecting with my family. That childhood obsession never faded, and eventually led me to study a Bachelor of Science in Geology and Geospatial Science at the University of Tasmania.
Now 30 and living in Hobart, I still get that same spark of excitement when I uncover something new. I fossick around Tasmania — especially in the Weld River (the inspiration behind the name Little Blue Weld) — and also travel overseas to hunt for gems. Alongside my own finds, I source stones from trusted, ethical locations to make sure every piece has both beauty and integrity.
I started Little Blue Weld because I wanted to share the joy of discovery — that “wow” moment when a rough little stone finally reveals its true sparkle.
Our Products
Every gemstone at Little Blue Weld is chosen for its character and beauty. Many are natural and untreated, while some may have had minor heat treatment — always disclosed with honesty. I photograph each stone in natural light, exactly as it is, so you can see its true colours without any edits or filters.
To bring out the best in each gem, I work with both local and overseas cutters, while also learning to facet myself. In the near future, I’m excited to offer in-house cutting, giving stones a full journey from discovery through to finished gem.
This isn’t about flawless, factory-made perfection. It’s about authentic gemstones with personality and provenance — ready to be collected, traded, or set into bespoke jewellery.
Our Team
Little Blue Weld is a one-woman operation — just me, Caitlyn. I take care of everything from fossicking and sourcing to photography and packaging, though friends and family often join me on the hunt for treasures.
While I run the business, the spirit of Little Blue Weld is shaped by the people, places, and gemstones that make each journey unique.
